Paul Lovatt-Cooper joins the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland |
 The National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) summer residential course will run from August 2nd – 7th with around 150 young brass and percussion players from all over Scotland and beyond gathering at the historical University of St Andrews, Fife.The course is led by inspirational Musical Director Richard Evans and is assisted by course tutors Brian Taylor & Archie Hutchison, Lesley Howie, Lyndon Baglin, Mark Boyd, Les Neish and Mark Landon. Guest conductor Paul Lovatt-Cooper will bring some of his latest compositions for the bands to perform and as well as conducting will give a composition masterclass to the students. This year marks a busy summer period for Paul, as well as his guest visit to NYBBS he is also the Percussion Tutor with the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain and Percussion and Composition Tutor with the Brass Band Summer School. Course director Neil Cross commented “I'm absolutely delighted that Paul Lovatt-Cooper has agreed to join us at St Andrews for this year's NYBBS course. Our students have loved playing his music over the past couple of years and I know they are really excited about meeting him. The combination of Paul and Richard Evans, along with our team of tutors, will ensure that all our young musicians have a first class experience at NYBBS this year.” The NYBBS course now boasts three brass bands: The National Youth Band, The Reserve Band and the Inaugural NYBBS Children’s Band. The NYBBS, its Reserve Section and the newly created Children’s Band cater for brass and percussion students under the age of 21 of all abilities from Grade 3 upwards. Each year, a varied programme of suitable music aimed at each target group is carefully chosen to maximise the experience for all young players. NYBBS regularly have players from England and, in the past, from Germany, the Faroe Islands and Ireland; they will happily accept applications from any young players whatever their nationality. The main emphasis of the NYBBS course is on education and improving overall standards, but this is done without detracting from the single most important element of music - enjoyment. Musical Director Richard Evans commented “Paul is a fantastic player, composer and conductor I am thoroughly looking forward to working with him again, the students will love him.
